Ardian, Inc. & Simplicity™
Acquired by Medtronic
Coridea identified renal nerve traffic to and from the kidney as a target for a new, previously unexplored device development to treat hypertension. They licensed the renal denervation technology — now marketed as Symplicity® — to The Foundry, and Ardian, Inc. was formed. Medtronic Inc. acquired Ardian in November 2010 for $800 million, the highest ever paid for a venture capital-backed medical device company in the pre-commercialization stage. The Symplicity® Catheter System™ by Medtronic Ardian was named the 2011 Edison Awards winner and received many other innovation awards.
